Maintenance work to be done on railway in Merrickville

Merrickville-Wolford residents are getting a heads up about upcoming work on the rail lines in the village.

Canadian Pacific Kansas City says it will be cutting trees, shrubs and brush as well as removing vegetation along the tracks between May 4 and Aug. 31.

They say the work is being done to reduce the risk of trees and limbs falling onto the railway or neighbouring property and also to ensure motorists and pedestrians see approaching trains.

It also includes herbicide treatment for the rail track bed which helps with track inspections and decreases the likelihood of wild fires while ensuring the area where employees walk to inspect trains is safe.

CPKC says it follows Transport Canada’s rules for track safety which requires yearly maintenance.
