MP Barrett wants your thoughts on high-speed rail between Toronto and Quebec City

What are your thoughts on the high-speed rail project that would link Toronto to Quebec City?

Former Prime Minister Justin Trudeau first announced the project on Feb. 19, 2025 with a design phase expected to last four to five years.

Leeds-Grenville-Thousand Islands and Rideau Lakes MP Michael Barrett says on Facebook that he recently met with Alto, also known as the Toronto-Quebec City High-Speed Rail Network, about the project which has no stops planned for our community.

He has launched an online survey where you can share your thoughts.

Barrett says the cost estimate for the project is $60-billion to $90-billion and he adds that people are worried about impacts on farms, homes, businesses, the environment, heritage sites, and local roads.

He says he shares those concerns and wants to know if there are benefits for the local community.
