A Kemptville woman on vacation in Puerto Vallarta, Mexico says she’s waiting to see what happens next.
Brenda Kendrick and her husband traveled to the area to meet up with her uncle, who has vacationed there for 30 years.
Global Affairs is advising Canadians in that region to shelter in place with it being one of several cities where criminal groups have set up roadblocks with burning vehicles.
It follows the death of Mexico’s most-wanted cartel boss in a Mexican military operation.
Kendrick tells Moose FM that they are allowed to move around the complex where they are staying but things are far from normal.
“Everyone knows that the cartel’s here and you don’t feel like you’re a risk to the cartel because they fight with the police and the government. So I didn’t feel unsafe ever before. I don’t feel particularly unsafe today, I feel unnerved.”
Kendrick says they have a flight to return home booked with Porter Airlines departing on Tuesday but she adds, with the airport temporarily closed, she expects it will be delayed by a few days.
