Drivers reminded to stop for school buses

Police are reminding drivers that they need to stop when a school bus has its lights on and stop arm extended.

East Region OPP say they continue to receive reports of drivers not stopping including from one bus driver who said that it happened several times in one day.

Not stopping can lead to penalties including a fine of up to $2,000 and six demerit points for a first offense.

Subsequent offenses can result in a larger fine and up to six months in jail.

Drivers are reminded that road safety is everyone’s responsibility and they are being asked to focus on doing their part.
