Prescott Mayor looks back on past four years and ahead to new council

Prescott Mayor Gauri Shankar says the town’s outgoing council accomplished a lot in their four years.

Council held their final meeting on Monday night and reflected on what Shankar says were major accomplishments including the development of the Seymour Recreational Complex, the construction of Wellington Manor and the revitalization of the town’s downtown core.

Shankar was re-elected as mayor in the October municipal election and will head a council that includes incumbents Leanne Burton, Mary Campbell, Justin Kirkby, Tracey Young as well as newcomers Bob Dixon and Trevor Baril.

He tells the Vista Radio Newsroom that training will soon begin to get everyone ready.

“We will have some council training through the (United Counties of Leeds and Grenville) and then we’ll have our own council training. More or less like a how to guidebook, what you can discuss in public and what you can’t.”

The new council will be officially inaugurated in two weeks.
