Prescott provides update on demolition of old water tower

Prescott officials say work continues to demolish the town’s old water tower.

The demolition contractor was originally intending to use a high reach excavator to remove the base of the bowl to speed up the process.

However, an engineering review says use of a high-reach excavator to remove the base risked the tower’s stem not being able to withstand the high powered equipment.

Mini excavators, which take more time, are now being used.

It’s now expected the process will continue until the end of November.

Officials say any damage caused to neighbouring properties during demolition will be repaired and property owners are spoken to if any damage happens.

Additional fencing is also being installed to keep residents away from the demolition site.
