KDH more “stable” with hiring of 10 new emergency department physicians

Kemptville District Hospital’s chief of staff says hiring 10 new emergency department physicians brings stability.

It was just over two years ago that Dr. Colin Sentongo says KDH was staring at the real possibility of closing their emergency department for a number of reasons including a lack of staff.

He says that’s when KDH entered into a partnership with the Ottawa Hospital that resulted in the majority of the new physicians that were hired.

Dr. Sentongo tells Moose FM that another big reason for the hires is the hospital’s new CT Scanner which was acquired, in part, through a community fundraising campaign.

“Any emergency doctor will tell you it’s pretty much an essential piece of equipment for them to feel comfortable in providing high quality care for patients.”

The KDH Foundation’s Crossroads Campaign raised $2.3 million to help purchase the CT scanner.

Officials say the group of new ED physicians that was hired bring years of experience and expertise to KDH’s Emergency Department.
