Prescott Town Council tables budget with lower overall increase than 2025

The average household in Prescott will see their property taxes go up $153 this year as part of the town’s 2026 budget.

At Monday night’s regular council meeting, the budget for this year was tabled bringing with it an increase of 3.94 per cent which is down slightly from the 3.95 per cent increase that was passed last year.

Prescott Mayor Gauri Shankar says he asked staff to have an increase for 2026 come in at or below last year’s increase.

He tells Moose FM that they were able to come through in the end despite rising costs.

“Remarkable because we have an 11 per cent increase in our OPP fees, something we can’t live without, six point two per cent from joint services.”

Joint services is based around the services the United Counties of Leeds and Grenville provides to the town including housing support and children’s services.

Shankar says council now has 30 days to bring forward any amendments including increases or decreases to the overall budget.
