Maynard Public School tops locally in Fraser Institute rankings

Over 3,000 Ontario elementary schools are included in the latest Fraser Institute rankings, including a few dozen in our area.

The rankings from the conservative Canadian public policy think tank are based on nine academic indicators derived from provincewide test results.

The top-ranked school locally is Maynard Public School, with a score of 5.4 out of 10.

St. Mark Catholic School was next with a score of 3, followed by Wellington Elementary School at 2.3.

Officials say the rankings allow parents to compare the academic performance of schools across the province.

The information used to compile the rankings is drawn from Education Quality and Accountability Office test scores and not all Ontario schools are included in the report.

“Our Report Cards offer parents information they can’t easily get anywhere else, about how their child’s school performs and how it compares to other schools in Ontario,” says Paige MacPherson, Fraser Institute senior fellow.

Public, Catholic, and independent schools were included in the rankings.
