Local fire departments receive $401,000 through Ontario’s Fire Protection Grant Program

Area fire departments are getting a funding boost of over $401,000 through Ontario’s Fire Protection Grant Program.

For 2025, the province doubled the funding available through the grant to municipal fire departments from $10 million to $20 million.

The application-based grant provides municipal fire services with funding to purchase equipment and supplies for cancer prevention initiatives, equipment to address lithium-ion battery fires, as well as infrastructure upgrades and modernization.

Among the recipients from our area is the Prescott Fire Department which received $15,883 to purchase 24 sets of gloves, balaclavas and helmet liners as well as specialty nozzle, foam and refillable extinguisher for lithium Ion incident responses.
