September is Childhood Cancer Awareness Month

Cancer remains the leading cause of death among children and adolescents in Canada.

That’s part of the message being delivered during Childhood Cancer Awareness Month with a flag raised by council and local advocacy group Gee’s Gang at the North Grenville Municipal Centre.

Gee’s Gang co-founder Lisa Neil says the group is named after her foster daughter Gee who passed away from cancer close to 15 years ago.

To mark the month, the group is holding its Mom Prom on Saturday, Sept. 19 at the W.B. George in Kemptville, an evening for women who are dealing with childhood cancer in their lives.

Neil tells the Vista Radio Newsroom that all money raised will go to the Children’s Hospital of Eastern Ontario.

“There isn’t enough research and funding for childhood Cancer awareness. So I think that’s why we do it, hopefully some day we wont have to raise money for it anymore.”

This is the third time that the Mom Prom is being put on in Kemptville.

Tickets and more information can be found by emailing geesgang1@gmail.com.
