Two U.S. residents face charges after officials say they seized several firearms, ammunition, magazines and suspected narcotics at the Thousand Islands Bridge.
Canada Border Services Agency officials say the two individuals approached the Lansdowne port of entry from the United States on May 23 seeking entry into Canada in a motorhome towing a pickup truck.
They say the pair told the border services officer they made a wrong turn towards the Canadian border and had no firearms or narcotics to declare.
Officials say the two were referred for a secondary examination and the driver admitted that he did have a firearm in the motorhome with both travellers then arrested for smuggling.
After searching the motorhome agents say they found items including eight firearms, 1,500 rounds of ammunition and several types of suspected narcotics.
A 59-year-old Virginia man and a 56-year-old California woman both face a raft of charges and are being kept in police custody with their next court appearance scheduled for July 31.
