Local politicians praising Canadian athletes Olympic efforts

Local dignitaries are praising the efforts of the Canadian athletes who competed at the 2026 Winter Olympics.

On X, Leeds-Grenville-Thousand Islands and Rideau Lakes MP Michael Barrett says he’s proud of every Canadian who wore the maple leaf at the Olympics.

He adds that he’s thanking them for representing us so well.

North Grenville Mayor Nancy Peckford says on Facebook that it was a formidable effort by the Canadian Men’s and Women’s Olympic hockey teams, both of which lost to the United States in their respective finals.

Peckford adds that silver is no small feat and minor hockey dreams are fueled by moments like these.

She’s thanking all the coaches and parents who step up to ensure kids can play.

Canada finished the games with 21 medals, five gold, seven silver and nine bronze, eighth overall in the overall medal count.
