Southeast Public Health halts closure of branch offices

The brakes are being put on the closure of any Southeast Public Health offices for the time being.

The Southeast Public Health Board of Health held a special meeting Tuesday, Feb. 10 in Kinsgton and passed a motion to hire a third-party consultant to begin work on a strategic plan and to help develop a clear vision for the future.

A resolution that places a pause on further implementation of the Rural Services Delivery Strategy, as well as all branch office closures, until the strategic plan is approved, was also passed.

That includes the satellite office in Kemptville.

North Grenville Mayor Nancy Peckford tells Moose FM that she’s encouraged by the move.

“The unit office here plays a critically important role in access to preventative healthcare and I would be shocked to see that they would recommend its closure once they’ve undertaken that exercise.”

Board Chair Nathan Townend says “our communities can be proud of this Board, and confident in their skills and expertise, as well as their professionalism, compassion, and dedication.”

The next board meeting is scheduled for Wednesday, Feb. 25.
