Air Canada says its suspending its service to Cuba effective immediately.
In a media release issued Monday, the airline says the decision was made because of an ongoing shortage of aviation fuel on the island.
It also follows threats from U.S. President Donald Trump to impose tariffs on countries providing oil to Cuba.
Air Canada says its immediate priority is to return customers already in Cuba to Canada.
They say they will operate empty ferry flights to the island over the coming days to maintain their regular schedule from Cuba to Canada over the near-term to pick up these customers.
The airline says it currently has approximately 3,000 customers in Cuba.
