Police: Two people face charges after vehicle stopped in Edwardsburgh-Cardinal Township

Police say two people face charges after a vehicle, which initially fled from officers, was stopped in Edwardsburgh-Cardinal Township.

Grenville County OPP say they attempted to stop a car for a traffic violation around 2 a.m. Thursday on County Road 2 in Cardinal. They say the vehicle fled a high speed and officers didn’t follow after it for safety reasons.

The car was spotted a short time later by Stormont, Dundas and Glengarry OPP officers in Morrisburg, according to police, and officers followed it to the Iroquois area, where police utilized a spike belt and other measures to safely stop it.

Two people were arrested and there were no injuries, although one OPP cruiser was struck by the vehicle.

Officers say they seized a firearm and an imitation firearm, as well as cannabis and other substances and suspected stolen property.

A 39-year-old North Grenville man and a 42-year-old Elizabethtown Township woman have both been charged with numerous offences.

The investigation is continuing, and additional charges are pending.
