Paramedics in our region will soon have enhanced mental health and wellness resources available to them.
In October, the Leeds Grenville Paramedic Service received a one-time grant of $25,000 through Ontario’s Mental Health Supports for Public Safety Personnel Program.
Officials say the initiative helps public safety organizations deliver specialized mental health services for first responders.
As part of this funding, the service says it will invest in advanced training for its peer support team, which was established three years ago, and is a volunteer group of paramedics that provides 24/7 peer-to-peer assistance.
Next month, team members will take part in in Peer Support Fundamentals, a three-day, in-person program which emphasizes active listening and real-life sharing.
