Impaired driver caught after short foot chase

The public helped the OPP catch an impaired driver in Leeds this weekend.

Over the Thanksgiving long weekend the OPP were called by a member of the public who reported a driver sleeping at the wheel of their car near the tracks on Sharpe’s Lane in Elizabeth-Kitley Township. Police say the driver left that location after being woken up and was involved in a crash with another vehicle at Second Concession Road and Sharpe’s Lane.

After the collision the suspect fled on foot before being apprehended by the OPP with the assistance of an off-duty Brockville Police Officer. The accused has been charged with impaired driving, driving with over 80mgs of alcohol in the blood stream, failure to remain at the scene of an accident, using plates not authorized for a vehicle and driving while under suspension.

The woman who was driving the vehicle involved in the collision was transported to Brockville General Hospital with non-life threatening injuries.
