At last night’s Prescott Town Council meeting a proclamation was made.
Mayor Brett Todd signed a document declaring October 15th to 21st Local Government Week in Prescott. This is a province wide campaign put on with support from the Association of Municipal Managers, Clerks and Treasures of Ontario (AMCTO), the Ontario Ministry of Municipal Affairs and the Association of Municipalities of Ontario. The goal is to increase youth and public awareness about the important role local government plays in communities.
The Ministry of Municipal Affairs says some examples of how communities or schools can celebrate local government include; debate a school board trustee on a school issue, hold a Mayor for a Day essay contest, host a mock council or organize a tour of Town Hall. Prescott’s Town Council has not formally announced how they will be celebrating the week but there was discussion about an online survey to gather the public’s opinion and the possibility of an open house.
