Mayor Brett Todd is less than pleased after his MTO meeting.
During the Committee of the Whole meeting Mayor Todd took a few moments to address a meeting he had with others mayors in Kingston about trucking safety. The meeting is a response to the fatal transport rollover in March that claimed the life of one person, injured nearly thirty others and shut down the 401.
Mayor Todd said a lot of great information was distributed at the meeting but he was disappointed by the lack of political representation. The Ministry of Transportation Ontario, Ontario Provincial Police and Ontario Trucking were all represented at the meeting, along with 10 or 11 mayors and the chair of the mayors and wardens caucuses.
According to Mayor Todd there was quite a bit of anger and frustration in the room because, after waiting six months, they had hoped to take the message directly to the Ontario Minister of Transportation the Honorable Steven Del Duca. He adds that Del Duca offered to speak with the group and the mayors are now trying to arrange a trip to Toronto.
