National Peace Officer Memorial Run

Brockville Police Services will be represented in next week’s National Peace Officer Memorial Run.

The annual event will be taking place from September 21st to 23rd. Constable Dan Hall, Special Constable Sierra Cauley and Acting Staff Sergeant Tom Fournier will run the 460km relay on behalf of Brockville Police. This year’s run has special significance for local law enforcement officers because it marks the 10th anniversary of locally born RCMP Constable Douglas Scott passing away in the line of duty on Baffin Island.

The relay will start in Toronto at the Queen’s Park Officer’s Memorial and finish at the Canadian Peace Officer’s Memorial on Parliament Hill. Once runners arrive on the 24th they will take part in the 40th annual Canadian Peace Officers Memorial Service. The relay was started in 2005 by members of the Peel Regional Police who wanted to raise awareness about the memorial service, while paying tribute to officers who had passed away serving their community.

The run will be stopping for the night in Brockville on Friday. The runners will meet at Highway 2 West and Lyn Road at 5:00pm before a short run along King Street to the Court House. There will be a short ceremony held at the Court House in honour of Constable Scott and members of the community are encouraged to join the officers running along King.

Participating officers raised money for the memorial by selling Memorial Run t-shirts but the run also accepts sponsorships. For more information go to www.npomr.org.
