Local Hospitals to Receive Major Funding Boost

Brockville General Hospital is set to receive an extra $3.2 million dollars in funding for next year from the Ontario Ministry of Health.

The money will be used to improve access to care and reduce the length of hospitals stays for patients and families.

The extra money comes on top of the funding that B.G.H. receives from the South East Local Health Integration Network, bringing the hospitals total to $8,561,900.

Recently appointed supervisor for the hospital, Kevin Empey, says the funding will help B.G.H. continue to provide quality care while they recover from previous financial challenges.

Hospitals within the Champlain Local Health Integration Network, such as Kemptville District Hospital, will see some extra money from the provincial government as well.

MPP John Fraser and MPP Yasir Naqvi announced that the LHIN will receive over $7.6 million this year to improve access to care and also reduce the length of hospital stays for patients in the region.

Kemptville District Hospital CAO Frank Vassallo says this funding will help the hospital provide care as efficiently as possible.

Vassallo says the funding will also help with increases in service demands that they receive through the season, such as increased cases of flu.
