The OPP is using new technology to help solve the murder of Frederick “John” Hatch, last seen on December 16th, 2015 in Ottawa. His body was found near Toronto the next day and the OPP says it’s using text messages to locate witnesses who may have seen Hatch. Those texts were sent to cellphones that were in that same area, around the time of Hatch’s last sighting. The texts ask the owners to voluntarily visit a website and answer a few questions. While the OPP doesn’t receive personal information connected to the numbers, the new court process called a Production Order allows police a way to try and establish communications with possible witnesses who may be able to help with the investigation.
