There’s a pay bump likely coming for both the mayor and councillors in Prescott. At Monday’s Council meeting it was decided that staff would bring forward a by-law to increase salaries for councillors to the county average. As for the Mayor, pay would increase to that of the Mayor of Gananoque, which is still $10,000 less than the county average. A working group, made up of staff and community representation, reviewed salaries and came up with recommendations. Increases would come into effect September 1st, 2016, January 1st, 2017 and January 1st, 2018. Councillors will go from about $8,400 to just over $10,200. The mayor’s salary will increase from about $16,800 to just over $27,500. Both councillors and the mayor will see cost of living adjustments as well. Council will vote on the by-law at a future meeting.
(Edit: A previous version of the story incorrectly stated that the pay increase had already been voted on)
