Happening Now: Heat Warning in effect for region

It’s the kind of weather that will have you searching for the closest place to cool down.

A Heat Warning is place for our region from Environment Canada with the first significant heat event of the season bringing dangerously hot and humid conditions.

Monday’s high is expected to reach 35 degrees but feel like 44 with the humidex with Tuesday’s high expected to hit 36.

A cold front is expected to push through the region late Tuesday, but the weather agency says there is some uncertainty with how far south the front will get.

Cooling spaces in Prescott that are open include:

Alaine Chartrand Community Centre Lobby – 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.

Grand Room at Town Hall – until 4:30 p.m.

Prescott Library – 10 a.m. to 7 p.m.

Walker House – 9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.

Health professionals say it’s crucial to stay hydrated, cool and alert and also to check on those who are vulnerable to heat.
