Upper Canada District School Board officials say they are working to make sure every student feels comfortable at school.
It follows a recent student survey being released that found only four out of ten students say they feel comfortable when using the washroom at school, down from the last survey which was released last October.
In the latest report, 41.3 per cent of students said they feel safe and officials say one reason that number dropped is the use of vaping by students in secondary school washrooms.
UCDSB Executive Superintendent Eric Hardie tells Moose FM they are looking at all options to help address the situation including ideas from students themselves like a QR code posted outside washrooms.
“So if there are people in and vaping and what not, by using the QR code a student could suddenly inform the administrations, for example, that there was a problem in the washroom.”
Hardie adds that they are holding meetings with both parents and students to gain more information and ideas going forward.
