Physician recruitment efforts continue in region

Our region isn’t alone when it comes to the challenges of physician recruitment.

To help bring physicians and healthcare workers to the area who will stay long-term, Brockville Mayor Matt Wren says the United Counties of Leeds and Grenville is working with his city as well as Prescott and Gananoque.

They have hired Health Workforce Innovations Inc., a company co-founded by former Ontario Health Minister George Smitherman, on a one-year contract to help with the process.

Wren tells Moose FM they started the work of studying the region in January to find out what will help and he says they should be bringing their findings forward soon.

“It’s not a one size fits all approach but through their background knowledge and expertise they will help the local communities figure out exactly what solutions are needed.”

Wren adds there is a community steering committee that’s being formed to help the company with the recruitment work.
