The Executive Director of Victim Services of Leeds and Grenville says she’s touched by the amount of support for the residents of a Prescott rowhouse who were displaced by a fire.
First responders were called to the fire on James Street East on Tuesday morning and officials say twelve people were displaced in the blaze that caused around $1.5 million in damage.
Cecilia Clapson says in situations like these the community-based program receives an emergency call from police or fire and a team responds to the scene to provide emotional and practical support.
She says, through a partnership with the United Counties of Leeds and Grenville, they are able to provide accommodations at hotels in the area for the victims.
“So that they have somewhere that’s safe and quiet for them to go and rest, recuperate, and then start the journey of recovery.”
Clapson adds that a number of organizations and residents have reached out to see how they can support those impacted.
