Prescott Mayor Gauri Shankar is welcoming the news that a major grocery chain will be opening a new location in the town.
While Shankar says they have been asked not to announce the name of the grocer at this point, he says they are buying the site where Beach Hardware was formerly located on Irvine Road.
He says they will be tearing down the former store and building a 30-thousand square foot business, along with two more retail structures in the area.
Shankar says they are waiting for a site plan to be presented before more details are released publicly.
He adds that it’s great news for the town because a major chain has chosen to call Prescott home, giving shoppers more choices.
“It’s going to be good because people that are driving to Brockville, are driving to Kemptville, are driving to Ottawa to get better prices are going to have some more options here in Prescott.”
Shankar add he expects the site plan to be presented and more details to be released in January.
