Reenactors will be playing out the Battle of the Windmill at both Fort Wellington and the actual battle national historic sites on Saturday and Sunday.

Fort Wellington is a a historic military fortification located on the north shore of the St. Lawrence River that’s now open to visitors.

The battle took place in 1838 and is called a pivotal event in the aftermath of the Upper Canada Rebellion.

“Rebellious Canadians with Americans, two-hundred-and-fifty of them, crossing from Ogdensburg New York to take a windmill that’s about a kilometre east of Fort Wellington.”
