Update: LCBO strike over after workers vote to ratify new contract

Update: 4:19 P.M. Sunday

The strike by LCBO workers in Ontario is over and stores will reopen on Tuesday.

The union representing the LCBO employees released a statement Sunday afternoon announcing that its members have voted to ratify the new contract.

It follows a strike that began on July 5 with stores closed for just over two weeks.

Union officials say the now-ratified deal includes significant improvements from the employer’s last offer on July 4, the day before the strike started. In the new contract, there is a guarantee of no store closures and a cap on the number of agency stores. Most importantly, there is a shared commitment to a future in which the LCBO, and its revenues, continue to grow with Ontario.

Update: 3:40 P.M. Friday

It appears it could be back to the drawing board when it comes to the strike by LCBO workers in Ontario.

While the LCBO announced early Friday afternoon that a tentative agreement had been reached to end the two week job action, the union representing the employees now says
that the province is refusing to sign a return-to-work protocol for its members.

Without the province signing off, the union says that the strike will continue for the time being.

A spokesperson for the Ontario Public Service Employees Union says that without a signed return-to-work protocol there is no deal.

It could soon be back to business as normal at LCBO stores in Ontario.

Reports say the LCBO and the union representing its workers have reached a tentative deal following a two-week strike.

Stores across the province have been closed since the strike began on July 5th.

They could reopen as soon as Tuesday.

More details are expected to be provided at a media conference on Friday afternoon.
