Prescott’s Riverwalk Promenade has a longer shelf life this summer.
At their regular meeting on Monday night, Prescott Town Council voted in support of a staff recommendation to close Edward Street, from King Street to Water Street, for five weeks beginning on June 28 for the promenade to be in place.
The promenade, a public space between the RiverWalk District’s waterfront and the fshops, restaurants, and services on King Street and surrounding areas, was first put in place for two long weekends in the summer of 2022.
Home to the Prescott Farmers’ and Crafters’ Market From Victoria Day weekend until Labour Day, Prescott Mayor Gauri Shankar says it’s grown by leaps and bounds over the years.
With the space in place on a more permanent basis, Shankar says furniture and tree scaping will be done to help enhance the area.
In their report, staff noted that the space has operated successfully without incident and minimaldisruption to weekend traffic and adjacent businesses.
