If you’ve ever wanted to try fishing, you’ve got a chance to cast some lines for free over the weekend.
The Ontario government runs four “free family fishing” weekends every year, allowing residents to fish in the province without buying a license.
The first free weekend of 2024 runs from this Saturday, February 17th, to Monday the 19th.
During those days, you’ll need to follow the catch and possession limits of a “conservation” fishing license.
One-day “sport” licenses are available to buy if you want to catch more.
You’ll also need to carry a government-issued ID with your name and date of birth, like a health card or driver’s license.
The next free fishing opportunity is happening in May, to celebrate Mother’s Day.
