Prescott council looking to offset costs of electric vehicle charging stations

Electric vehicle owners might need to start paying to use charging stations in Prescott.

Town council is considering adding a one-dollar-per-hour fee at its seven electric vehicle charges, plus four more set to become active soon outside the Alaine Chartrand Community Centre.

Currently, all the town’s charging stations are free to use. Staff say fees would be collected through a smartphone app, and the money would offset the costs of running the charging machines.

Council votes on whether to introduce the fee at its meeting Monday night.
