Kemptville’s Chris Wilson named local NDP candidate for provincial election

With the provincial election only a few weeks away, the Ontario New Democratic Party (NDP) has nominated its candidate for Leeds-Grenville-Thousand Islands and Rideau Lakes.

Chris Wilson, a Kemptville resident originally from Ottawa, announced his candidacy Tuesday night.

“Our province, country, and frankly the entire world, has entered a new age,” Wilson says. “With the threats of pandemics, climate change, rising wealth inequality and unaffordable housing, we no longer have the luxury to select leaders who are not willing to sacrifice for the greater good.”

In the 2018 election, the Progressive Conservative Party won with more than 60 percent of the total votes. The Ontario NDP was the closest runner up.

This year, Wilson will be running against Liberal candidate Josh Bennett, a Prescott resident born and raised in our region, and Steve Clark, the incumbent Conservative candidate.

Election day is June 2nd.
