MPP Steve Clark condemns Randy Hillier tweet for “inciting violence”

UPDATE October 5th: Toronto Police Services have confirmed they are looking into Randy Hillier’s tweets. In an email, Toronto Police Services says that a report was created about the tweets, and that they are investigating the tweets alongside the Legislative Assembly and Lanark County OPP.

In an exclusive interview with MyPrescottNow.com, Steve Clark, the MPP for Leeds-Grenville-Thousand Islands and Rideau Lakes, says that Randy Hillier should be “ashamed” for comments he made on Twitter on Saturday. Hillier, the MPP for Lanark-Frontenac-Kingston, called for members of the Ontario legislature to be tarred and feathered, and specifically mentioned Clark, in a now-deleted tweet.

“First of all,” Clark says, “I’m not surprised that Twitter has removed the tweet because it violated their rules, but I also want to be clear that violence and harassment can’t be tolerated in any form. No one should feel threatened or unsafe going to work. As the local MPP, over the last year and a half, many – I guess I would say, most, Ontarians have come together to support each other, they’ve made personal sacrifices to keep us safe, and they’ve shown the true Ontario spirit.”

“But Randy’s comments inciting violence are dangerous,” Clark continues. “He disrespects every single Ontarian who has done their part to protect not just themselves, but those that are around them. He should be ashamed, and he should be held accountable.”

Hillier has been the MPP for Lanark-Frontenac-Kingston since 2007. He was elected as a member of the Progressive Conserative party in 2018, but was removed from their caucus in 2019 and has been an Independent since. The next Ontario election is scheduled for 2022.
