Boaters and anglers in Eastern Ontario can get ready for the seasonĀ
South Nation Conservation is opening a number of its boat launches, river access points and conservation areas, with the long weekend nearly upon us.Ā
As of Friday,Ā SNC will be opening the Cass Bridge Conservation Area in Winchester, Chesterville Waterfront Docks and Boat Launch, Oak Valley Pioneer Park Conservation Area in Winchester Springs, and the Spencerville Mill Riverside Park and Boat Launch.
Meanwhile, Winchesterās Camp Sheldrick Conservation Area remains closed for the time being.
SNCās Conservation Lands and Community Outreach Lead John Mesman says they couldnāt be more excited to open all these amenities.
āPeople are eager to explore natural spaces close to home and as long as our visitors continue to use our public spaces safely, weāre happy to provide access to the local environment,ā Mesman said.
Play structures are open, but SNC says washrooms will remain closed during the Stay-at-Home Order.Ā
Youāre also encouraged to only visit these areas with members of your own household, and if youāre using the facilities, you should be wearing a mask.
Ā Anglers are also being advised that it is unsafe and illegalĀ to fish within 23 metres of a dam under the Federal Fisheries Act.
Fish congregate in these areas to pass over dams and access fish ladders, and fishing prevents many fish species from spawning, which pose significant risks to fish populations.Ā
SNC will be providing more updates on changes to operations as they become available.
