Fire Prevention Week begins Sunday and people are reminded to look, listen and learn.
The National Fire Prevention Association has announced the theme this year is “Look. Listen. Learn. Be aware – fire can happen anywhere.” They say look for places fires can start, listen for the sound of the smoke alarm and learn two ways out of every room.
Fire Prevention Week runs until Saturday, October 13th and the Prescott Fire Department will be holding Fire Safety Day at the Leo Boivin Community Centre. The event will be happening from 11 to one on October 13th. There will be fire safety demos, a free Barbecue lunch, fire truck displays, people can explore the fire safety house and Sparky will be visiting.

The fire safety house is an inflatable learning tool. It has small versions of a kitchen, living room and bedroom that adults and kids can go through and learn about fire safety.
There will also be a kitchen stove simulator where people can learn about kitchen safety when cooking. A Hazard House is a mini portable house and will be set up and shows the inside of each room in a typical home with the different hazards someone could experience. There will be a Fire Extinguisher trainer where attendees can try putting out a small controlled fire with an extinguisher and water. The fire department will also have handouts for people as well.
