Councillor Candidate Lee McConnell Focuses On Water Tower And Arena

Lee McConnell is running for Councillor in Prescott. This will be his third term running for the position.

McConnell says his number one priority is the water tower. He explains without a water tower people would not be able to flush toilets, if there was a fire the fire hydrants would not be usable and some businesses will have to shut down if there is no water. He also says structural improvements on overpasses are a priority. Another priority for McConnell is the arena. He says even though there are four arenas within a 20 minute drive from here, he doesn’t believe a town the size of Prescott, in Canada, can be without an arena. McConnell adds a large public input for the arena should be the first thing on the minds of the Parks and Recreation Department. He also says Prescott doesn’t actually own the property the arena is on, so he thinks it’s imperative the town purchases that.

McConnell also says Prescott’s relationship with neighbouring townships needs to be addressed. He says the fire hall is a good example of why it is needed.

“Quite frankly, I believe that our neighbours should be pitching in more than they are. Our prior agreement with them is old. It doesn’t come close to the cost of covering our participation in another township.”

McConnell has been a resident of Prescott since the late 50’s when his family moved to town. He’s also operated and managed a business in town. He says he uses that experience in council decisions.

McConnell says being on council for eight years already benefits him. He says he gets along with the members of council and staff, has always been a team player and has gained respect with the people he works with.

The My Prescott Now newsroom will be interviewing Councillor candidates for Prescott over the next two weeks. The 2018 Municipal Election is set for October 22.
