Outdoor Rink Fundraising In Gananoque Not Finished Yet

The Canada 150 Rink will be moving to Gananoque and a fundraising committee is still raising money for the rink.

Jeff Brown is the Chair of the committee and says their goal is to raise one million dollars for the first part. He adds with the money from the Canada 150 rink and fundraising around 700 thousand dollars has been raised for the rink now. He says with The 1000 Islands Accommodation Partners they started working on the idea to bring an outdoor rink to Gananoque about a year ago.

“Back in June of 2017, so it was a project that we committed $100,000 to begin with and have been working on for some time.”

Brown is the late Gord Brown’s brother and says an outdoor rink in Gananoque was a project Gord initiated with The 1000 Islands Accommodation Partners. Jeff says they now want to do this as a legacy project.

“Gord never wavered from we need an outdoor ice rink facility here in Gananoque. We’re just thrilled to bring his dream to fruition.”

Brown also says since Gord did the Hockey Night in Leeds Grenville, the committee will be carrying on the tradition. The event will be a fundraising game for the rink and also United Way. It is set for November 28th in Gananoque.
