MTO setting up advisory group

The Ministry of Transpiration is setting up an advisory group.

At this week’s town council meeting it was announced that the group would be created, in part, as a response to the fatal collision in March that shut down the highway. Prescott Mayor Brett Todd will be representing the Eastern Ontario mayor’s caucus and will be just one of the group’s first members. Also involved are Warden Robin Jones, the MTO and the Ontario Trucking Association.

Mayor Todd also noted that he believes independent truckers should be represented within the group as well because they are numerous and deserve to have their opinions heard. He adds that nothing with this group has been carved in stone yet, it is one of the first steps towards change.

Some actions the MTO may be rolling out this fall include securing of hazmat materials and a speed regulation advisory. The advisory would decrease a vehicle’s acceptable top speed by ten or 20 kilometres during bad weather.

Mayor Todd would also like to see the public given a way to respond directly to MTO, possibly through a dedicated email.
