Prescott Public Works building needs new septic system

The Prescott public works building is getting a new septic system.

During a Special Council meeting for the Town of Prescott a report from Director of Public Works Dan Beattie was presented. The report explained that during regular inspection of the septic system it was discovered that the system was failing. There was a blockage found in August and, after snaking the lines, the backup happened again a week later. The town ran a flow test and no water came out.

When the Leeds, Lanark and Grenville Health Unit attended the site they concluded the system had failed and told the town they would have to replace the existing system. The town was also instructed to fix the groundwater infiltration issue and treat the discharge from the garage floor drains before it is discharged into the sewage works.

The Health Unit approved the town’s proposed designs in September and the plans were forwarded to Ken Miller Excavating, the town’s vendor of record for civil work, for quotation. The town has been quoted just over $55,000 plus HST to construct the new system.

Council approved the motion and staff will being moving ahead with the plan.
