As we head into another winter, Leeds Grenville MPP Steve Clark is warning that the issue of road maintenance is still of great concern. Last year it was reported that contract issues with the maintenance company were leaving the 401 snow-covered and dangerous. Clark says the problem is that the Ontario Ministry of Transportation is putting cost savings before public safety.
A report released by the auditor general in April showed a shocking decrease in the number of snow removal vehicles used since 2009 between Kingston and Quebec. Since that report, the ministry has added to the snow removal fleet on the roads but the contracts still need to be sorted out.
