13 charges laid against Ottawa man

A man is facing a number of charges after a series of events.

The Stormont Dundas and Glengarry OPP say just after 2:30 on Monday they responded to a report that a man had stolen alcohol from a business on County Road 3. The suspect left the South Mountain establishment in a dark vehicle which was later observed on County Road 1 in South Dundas Township.

The suspect’s vehicle was involved in a single vehicle collision on the South Dundas Eastbound Highway 401 on ramp. He tried to run from the vehicle but was successfully apprehended by attending officers. Further investigation revealed the vehicle had been stolen in Ottawa and that the suspect’s driving privileges were already suspended from a previous incident. The man was also found to breaching a court order from a previous incident and a quantity of what police suspected to be heroine was seized from the vehicle. The male was also charged with similar thefts from businesses in Spencerville.

When all the offences had been identified the 32-year-old from Ottawa was charged with; dangerous operation of a motor vehicle, possession of a controlled substance, possession of property obtained by crime over $5000, two counts of possession of property obtained by crime under $5000, failure to comply with probation order, three counts of driving while disqualified, shoplifting theft under $5000 and three counts of theft under $5000 from the Spencerville incidents.
