Ontario Government funding worker’s rights education

The Ontario government is trying to help workers in the province get a more comfortable working environment.

The new Employment Standards Training and Education Program is aimed at raising awareness for both employees and employers about workplace rights and responsibilities. The program operates by giving grant money to non-profit organizations so they can develop projects that educate vulnerable workers, and small to mid-sized businesses, on their rights and duties under the Employment Standards Act.

Lead Facilitator with CSE Consulting Rod Palmer says employees aren’t the only ones with rights under the Employment Standards Act, employers are protected as well. The provincial government will be investing $500,000 into the program. These grants are a response to the recommendation for collaboration with out organizations in the Changing Workplace Review.
The deadline for eligible non-profits to apply is 4:00pm on October 31st but recipients will not be announced until 2018.
