Four cyclists from Brockville Police Services will be participating in the Canadian Police Memorial Ride to Remember.
During the lead up to the Canadian Peace Officer Memorial Service at Parliament Hill on September 24th police officers from across Ontario will be riding 700km. The ride starts at the Ontario Police College before cyclists meet runners from the National Peace Officer Memorial Run at the Police Memorial in Queen’s Park the next morning. After that they will start pedaling East.
Brockville cyclists are leaving from Niagara a day early, which adds arounds 200km to their journey. This year Sergeant Andrew Harvie will lead a team that consists of Detective Laurie Bennet, Constable Mark Chicoine and Brockville Police Chaplain Jonathan Zinck. Constable Dave Jeggo will help cyclists by driving in the equipment vehicles. The team will be joined by Constable Joel Darling of the Gananoque Police Service.
The ride will be stopping at the Canadian Tire on Parkedale Avenue in Brockville Friday evening for a brief ceremony and barbeque. Canadian Tire have helped sponsor the ride and will be giving some local youth bicycles through their JumpStart program.
