Trucking for a Cure this weekend

Drivers on the 401 between Brockville and Prescott this Saturday will see much more pink that usual.

This Saturday will mark the fourth running of the Brockville-Prescott Trucking for a Cure convoy fundraiser. Trucking for a Cure is a breast cancer fundraiser started in 2010 in Woodstock. Joanne Millen Mackenzie, one of the convoy’s organizers, says Prescott hosted the first three years of the event but they moved it to Brockville after the town asked to host. In the future they plan to alternate the host town every year.

Driver registration opens at 8:00am and participants have until 10:00am to deck their trucks out in pink before the convoy hits the road at 11:15am. The convoy should be in Prescott by noon and organizers have lots of family friendly events planned including live music by the Shanley Road Band, a silent auction and barbeque.

Millen Mackenzie says money is raised two different ways. Major trucking companies are contacted and asked to be sponsors for the event. Their sponsorship’s go directly to the Canadian Cancer Society in the name of Trucking for a Cure. Individual drivers can also register as fundraisers, those drivers then collect pledges before taking part in the drive.
