Repairs are coming to Prescott’s Water Treatment Plant after council approved a contractor at this week’s Special Council meeting.
The Town of Prescott will hire Chevron Construction to make long-planned repairs to the treatment plant. The town reached out to eight companies for proposals and, after a mandatory site visit by three, Chevron was chosen for having the lowest bid while still meeting all the necessary criteria. The planned repairs include; replacing the roof as well as the heating, ventilation, air conditioning and boiler systems, replacing the interior and exterior lighting with LED fixtures and major repairs to the exterior walls. All of the repairs have received approval except for the LED lighting.
The town will receive three quarters of the funding for the project from the Clean Water and Wastewater Fund. 50 per cent of the money is coming from the federal government and 25 per cent from the provincial level. Mayor Brett Todd asked about a timeline for completing the repairs and Head of Public Works Dan Beattie explained that repairs to the roof would be completed during the fall but the other work would have to wait until spring.
60 percent of the money obtained through the Clean Water and Wastewater fund must be spent before March 31st or the money will be returned to the government, so the repairs should be underway before that date.
