Even after missing out on an entire day the volunteers with King’s Kitchen still managed to reach their fundraising goal.
Over the long weekend a small crew of volunteers organized a yard sale where all the items were donated by the community and the proceeds went to putting on King’s Kitchen dinners over the next year. Sue Leizert-Rutter says the yard sale’s goal was to cover the cost of one week’s meal. Despite being rained out on Sunday, and not raising a single dollar, the sale still managed to raise $620.
Leizert-Rutter says when the dinners started in 2008 it cost about $300 to feed around 200 people but in recent years increased attendance has driven the cost up to around $500 per week, depending on the meal. She stresses that King’s Kitchen don’t put meals on for any single group and that the dinners are meant to be a true community affair, open to everyone that comes out.
King’s Kitchen thanked all the volunteers that helped put on the yard sale, as well as the people who donated items, made purchases or left cash donations. King’s Kitchen community dinners will return Wednesday September 13th.
