Stern warning given to two local boys

Two local boys were given stern warnings after emergency services were called to the St. Lawrence River.

Around 6:30pm yesterday representatives with Prescott Fire and Rescue say they received a call that said swimmers in the water were having trouble. Officers with the OPP and Prescott Fire both answered the call and were there to meet the boys when they returned to shore.

According to Prescott Fire and Rescue officials the two 15-year-old boys had been swimming at Kelly’s Beach before making the decision to float on the current. They came ashore near the East end of Prescott’s Heritage trail where they were met by emergency services.

Both teenagers were physically unharmed and were sent home after reminders about the dangers of currents and under-tows by both Prescott Fire and Rescue and the OPP. Remember to always test the current before swimming and never swim alone.
